Unlike previous installments such as New Super Mario Bros. Various ideas were suggested during development, and to incorporate them all, the team decided to employ a sandbox-style of gameplay. It’s a fantastic project that allows you to play through some of the most iconic levels in gaming history in a multitude of fun new ways. If you’re still looking for more customization options then there’s an editor that allows you to create your own level sand a vast array of mods that can be downloaded from. It’s not just the visuals that you can change either – Sonic Boll also allows you to completely change the soundtrack, with new soundtrack options that include The Giana Sisters, Street Fighter and Moonwalker. It also features the entity of the levels from the original from Super Mario Bros (complete with warp pipes), which you can play three differently skinned versions of – Original, Super Mario Bros 3 style and a beautifully animated re-imagining of the original.
The base game features 8 playable characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Metal Sonic, Mario, Luigi and the Kid), each of which have some excellent alternate skins – such as Michael Jackson, an 8-bit Sonic, and Dr. Originally starting as a small fan game where an 8-bit styled Sonic could play through the original Super Mario Bros NES game, Sonic Boll has since grown into something far bigger and far more impressive. Sonic Boll is a fantastic fan made Mario and Sonic Mash-up that allows Sonic and pals to make their way through beautifully skinned versions of the original Super Mario Bros game.
